Privacy policy
Last updated:
AskRem is an AI plan-making app. Our assistant, Rem, builds outing plans (dates, group nights, trips) from what you tell it. This policy covers the askrem website, including the waitlist and venue sign-up, and the AskRem apps. It explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
Person in charge of your personal information
The person responsible for protecting personal information at AskRem is Aimene. For any question, request or complaint about your personal information, write to wertwo2inc@gmail.com. We answer within 30 days.
What we collect on this website
- Waitlist. Your email or mobile number, your neighborhood, who you usually go out with, the language you used, and the referral code we create for you. If you arrived through a friend's link or a partner's link, we also record that link's referral code or campaign tags (utm_source, utm_campaign and similar), the page you landed on, and the site you came from.
- Venue sign-up. Your business name and address, the owner's name, email and phone, the category, and whether you want to be a founding partner.
- Analytics, only if you accept them. Pages viewed, the device and browser you use, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. We use PostHog for this.
- Technical data. Our servers briefly process your IP address to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse.
What we collect in the app
- Account information. Email, a hashed password (never stored in plain text), and the profile you choose to fill in: name, photo, birth date, language and tastes (interests, cuisines, budget, dietary needs).
- Relationship details (optional). Relationship status, your partner's first name, birthday and anniversary, used only to personalize plans and, if you opt in, reminders.
- Location. With your permission, your approximate location so Rem can plan near you. Live location in a group chat is shared only while you keep sharing it.
- Chats, plans and posts. Your messages, including group chats and conversations with Rem, the plans Rem makes, polls, and anything you publish to the public feed.
- Photos, device and usage data. Photos you upload, a notification token if you allow notifications, and activity in the app (likes, ratings, points) used to improve your recommendations.
- Payments. Processed by Stripe or the app stores. We never see your full card number.
Why we use it
- To tell you when AskRem opens in your neighborhood, and to keep your place on the waitlist.
- To credit referrals and rank the waitlist.
- To see which campaigns, events and partners bring people to the waitlist. We look at these numbers in aggregate.
- To contact venues that asked to join, and to run their accounts.
- To provide the app: generate plans, run chats and polls, process payments and keep accounts secure.
We use your information only for these purposes, or for others you consent to. You can withdraw your consent at any time by writing to wertwo2inc@gmail.com.
Cookies and similar technologies
Anything that tracks you is off until you choose otherwise. When you first visit, we ask whether you accept analytics cookies, and you can change your answer anytime with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.
- Always on, because the site needs them: a cookie that remembers your language choice; session storage that remembers, until you close the tab, which link brought you, so it can be attached to the form you submit; and local storage that remembers your cookie choice and your waitlist spot on this device.
- Only if you accept: PostHog analytics cookies, which measure visits and sign-ups.
How Rem (AI) uses your data
To make a plan, your messages and relevant context (tastes, budget, city, the chat's purpose) are processed by our AI providers, such as Groq, Google and OpenAI, and combined with venue data from Google Places. We don't use your data to train AI models, and we rely on providers that don't train on data sent through their APIs.
Plans are automated suggestions. No decision with legal or similarly significant effects on you is made by automated processing alone.
Plans can include steps labeled "Sponsored". A venue learns only that it was placed in a plan and whether an askrem code was redeemed at its door. It never receives your chats or your profile.
Who we share it with
We never sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers that run AskRem under contract: hosting and databases (Vercel, Railway, Supabase), media storage, AI providers, Google Places, push notifications (Expo), payments (Stripe), analytics (PostHog, only with your consent), error monitoring (Sentry), and Google Workspace, where the team manages the waitlist and venue sign-ups in a private spreadsheet.
- People you choose to share with, such as members of your group chats. The public feed is visible to everyone.
- Authorities, when the law requires it.
Storage outside Quebec
Some of our providers store or process information outside Quebec, mainly in the United States. Before information leaves Quebec, we assess whether it will receive adequate protection, and our contracts require providers to protect it and use it only to serve AskRem.
How long we keep it
- Waitlist information: until 12 months after AskRem opens in your area, or until you ask us to delete it.
- Venue sign-ups: 24 months after our last contact, unless the venue becomes a partner.
- App data: while your account is active. Deleting your account removes it within 30 days, backups included.
- Analytics data: up to 12 months.
Security and confidentiality incidents
Data is encrypted in transit, passwords and session tokens are stored hashed, and access is limited to people who need it. If a confidentiality incident presents a risk of serious injury, we notify the Commission d'accès à l'information and the people affected, as the law requires, and we keep a register of incidents.
Your rights
You can, at any time:
- access the personal information we hold about you, and get a copy in a structured, commonly used format;
- have it corrected if it is inaccurate, incomplete or ambiguous;
- withdraw your consent, or ask us to delete your information;
- ask us to stop disseminating your information or to de-index a link to it, when the law allows.
Write to wertwo2inc@gmail.com. We may ask you to confirm your identity. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (cai.gouv.qc.ca). Depending on where you live, PIPEDA or the GDPR may give you similar rights.
Deleting your account and data
In the app, go to Profile, then Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, preferences, relationship details, conversations and plans; copies in encrypted backups are purged within 30 days. To leave the waitlist, or to delete your data without the app, write to wertwo2inc@gmail.com from the email or number you signed up with.
Children
AskRem isn't directed at children under 14, and we don't knowingly collect their information without a parent's or guardian's consent. Users under 18 never see nightlife plans or sponsored steps.
Changes to this policy
If we make an important change, we update the date at the top and tell you on the site or in the app before it takes effect.
